CAMELS RIDES

We organize camel rides/walks for short periods to different places for fun, birding, nature walks and gave viewing.

 

Where to go

Forest- Samburu County has 25% of the Kenya’s forest cover. Over 250 bird species are found around Maralal.

 

Game Viewing in the plains/shrubs. From 4 km. Available are the impala, zebra, elands, gazelles, gravy zebras, dikdik, jackals, ostriches

 

Samburu Manyattas visit to - from 1km. See Samburu Manyatta setup, view traditional huts, dances, and interact with the people

 

Blacksmiths Manyattas visit to - about 10km . See making of spears, swords, arrows

 

Kenyatta house visit- Where first president of Kenya stayed

 

Maralal Game Sanctuary visit- 3 km. View zebras, impalas, warthogs

 

Rift Valley view point at Lesiolo (World’s End)- About 28 km. A great view that you will always remember.

 

House of God- a spectacular natural house-like rocky place where the Samburu make sacrifices believing to be God’s abode.

 

Maralal town- 2km. Livestock market, Samburu traditional herbs market, Turkana/Samburu dolls and artifacts curios, Samburu bead work and artier market, spectacular bustling about of Samburu people as they sell and buy, and hurry up back to manyattas to ‘receive’ back and attend to their livestock.

Full Day on Camel, packed lunch, 4.00 O’clock tea/coffee with snacks,  foods for

dinner and breakfast provided but you cook, camp overnight  and camp equipment

OTHER FUN CAMEL ACTIVITIES

Fun Camel Races: Very popular- we organize a three lap race just outside the Club, you race one leg (about 100 yards), dismount, have a swig of soda, race the second leg (about 100 yards), dismount, have a second swig of juice/soda, then race the last lap to finish at the Camp gate. The cost is 600/- per person and 500/- per camel.  The 600/- is divided as follows:- we take 150/- to the ‘winner’s kitty’, 150/-  towards the Moran helpers,  and 250/- to the Camp to carter other expenses like drinks and certificates printing. Prizes and certificates are given out in the evening- great fun.

 

Camel Photo Walks:  Riding camels for fun within and around the Camp- not more than 30min –per camel/person………………..….$5

 

Camel Handling: Mounting, Loading, etc-  not more than 30min –per camel/person………………..….$5

 

Camel Training: Some clients ask for practical lessons on camel training techniques- not more than 30min –per camel/person………………..….$6

 

Other Charges
Manyattas charge about 500/- per person for manyatta cultural visits with photography and dances; and Group Ranches charge about 200/- per person per night for bush camping. This cost is separate from above.
